Direct Support Professional
Job Description:
The duties of the Direct Support Professional include the following, but are not limited to the following:
- Shall comply with all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the company.
- Shall contribute to the overall improvement planning program by assisting in all areas of planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation improvement process.
- Shall provide physical assistance as needed to participants at the service site.
- Shall facilitate training to enrich the development of communication skills, sensory-motor skills, daily living skills, and self-help skills.
- Shall assist with daily living such as ambulating, dressing, grooming, feeding, toileting, bathing, laundry, and budgeting.
- Shall provide emotional support and assistance to help participants work through problems.
- Shall communicate with the case manager and/or supervisor regarding any issues or concerns of the participant served.
- Shall transport participants to appointments or service sites and may be required to use personal vehicle.
- Shall cooperate with all persons involved with participants during monitoring of home or day training site. This includes announced and unannounced visits to service sites.
- Shall participate in training as specified in agency policy and procedures and in accordance with DDID regulations.
- Shall generate and maintain appropriate documentation
- Shall treat all participants with dignity and respect at all times.
- Shall provide support to participants in achieving their outcomes.
- Shall comply with all tasks assigned in a timely manner.
- Shall comply with other duties assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Must be eighteen (18) years or older and have a High School Diploma or GED or is twenty-one (21) years old; and has the ability to do the following:
- Communicate effectively with a participant and the participant’s family; Read, understand, and implement written and oral instructions;
- Perform required documentation;
- Participate as a member of the participant’s person-centered team if requested by the participant.
- Demonstrates competence and knowledge on topics required to safely support the participant as described in the participant’s person-centered service plan.
MP Wavier Direct Support Staff:
“Direct care staff” means an individual hired by a Michelle P. Waiver provider to provide services to the participant and who:
- Is eighteen (18) years of age or older; and
- Has a high school diploma or GED; or
- Is twenty-one (21) years of age or older; and
- Is able to communicate with a participant in a manner that the participant or participant’s legal representative or family member can understand;
- Has s a valid Social Security number or valid work permit if not a U.S. citizen;
- Can understand and carry out simple instructions;
- Has the ability to keep simple records; and
- Is managed by the provider’s supervisory staff.
